About Us

The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is the peak high-performance sporting organisation in Western Australia, proudly supported by the State Government and a member of the National Institute Network. Since 1984, WAIS has supported Western Australian athletes to achieve success at national and international levels, including Olympic, Paralympic and World Championship competition.

We work in partnership with National Sporting Organisations, State Sporting Associations, VenuesWest and the Department of Creative Industries, Tourism and Sport to deliver high-quality daily training environments.

At WAIS, success is about winning well. While performance matters, how we achieve it matters just as much. Guided by our values of United, Care, Lead and Inspire share how we work together, support one another and pursue excellence every day.

About the Role

As a Sports Physiotherapist, you will work directly with athletes across the swimming program, helping them stay healthy and perform at their best through evidence based physiotherapy support. Working within an interdisciplinary performance support model, you will contribute to injury prevention initiatives, rehabilitation programs and return-to-performance planning.

You will collaborate closely with coaches, strength and conditioning practitioners and other performance support staff to deliver integrated, athlete-centred care that aligns with program objectives and WAIS's Win Well philosophy.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing effective return-to-performance plans that minimise time lost to injury and reduce the risk of recurrence.
  • Educating athletes on injury risk and prevention strategies to support informed performance decisions.
  • Maintaining injury records and contributing to injury surveillance and reporting.
  • Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams to provide holistic athlete support.
  • Contributing to physiotherapy practice standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting safe, inclusive and policy-compliant high-performance environments.

About You

You are a qualified physiotherapist who is passionate about supporting athletes in high-performance environments. You combine strong clinical expertise with excellent communication skills and a genuine commitment to working collaboratively with others.

You'll be well suited to this role if you:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (or equivalent) and current AHPRA registration as a Physiotherapist.
  • Have at least five years' experience providing physiotherapy support within sporting or high-performance environments.
  • Have completed, or are working towards, a Master of Sports & Exercise Physiotherapy or equivalent (desirable).
  • Have experience assessing, managing and rehabilitating sports injuries using evidence-based approaches.
  • Have experience or a particular interest in shoulder injury management and supporting swimmers in high performance environments.
  • Have comprehensive experience in assessment and management of tendinopathies.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate effectively with athletes, coaches and stakeholders.
  • Thrive in multidisciplinary environments and contribute positively to team culture.
