We’re looking for an experienced and proactive Finance Manager to lead the financial management function at WAIS.

Reporting to the Corporate Services Director, this role plays a key part in ensuring WAIS’ financial sustainability, supporting sound decision making across the organisation. You’ll move seamlessly between financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting and strategic analysis providing trusted advice to stakeholders, while also leading and developing the finance team.

This is a hands on leadership role where you’ll influence outcomes, strengthen financial capability and contribute to the strategic priorities of WAIS.

The Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) is the peak high-performance sporting organisation in Western Australia, proudly supported by the State Government and a member of the National Institute Network. Since 1984, WAIS has enabled Western Australian athletes to achieve success on the national and international stage, producing Olympic, Paralympic and World Champions who inspire community pride and the next generation.

About the Role

The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring WAIS has strong, reliable and forward-looking financial management to support our people, sports programs and our athletes.

Reporting to the Corporate Services Director, you’ll lead the organisation's finance function, providing clear financial insight, guidance and oversight across budgeting, reporting, forecasting and compliance. You’ll work closely with leaders across the business, helping them to understand their financial position and supporting them to make sound decisions.

The role suits someone who enjoys working at both a strategic and operational level, someone who can see the bigger picture and someone who is prepared to roll up their sleeves when required and bring others along through strong leadership and collaboration.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the delivery of accurate, timely financial reporting and analysis
  • Partner with leaders across WAIS to support budget management and informed decision making
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting and long-term financial planning activities
  • Ensure compliance with statutory, funding and audit requirements
  • Manage audits and preparation of annual financial statements
  • Lead and develop the finance team, supporting capability, performance and continuous improvement
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen financial systems, processes and controls
  • Provide trusted financial advice and support across the organisation

 

About You

You’re a highly capable finance professional who combines strong technical expertise with a collaborative, people focused approach.

You enjoy working with others to solve problems, provide clarity and improve how things are done and you’re comfortable balancing precision with pragmatism in a dynamic environment.

You’ll be a great fit if you have:

  • Qualifications in Accounting with CA or CPA certification
  • Solid experience in a senior finance management role
  • Strong analytical skills and confidence working with budgets, forecasts and financial models
  • A sound understanding of financial reporting, compliance and governance requirements
  • Advanced Excel capability and experience using financial systems
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate risks and respond thoughtfully to change
  • Experience leading and developing teams.
  • Experience in a sport, government or notforprofit environment is advantageous but not essential
