Job Description

Strength and Conditioning Lead at the Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS)  

WAIS is seeking an experienced Strength and Conditioning Lead to oversee a team of practitioners, ensuring exceptional high-performance standards across the organisation. As a Strength and Conditioning Coach, the Lead will also support athletes in their assigned programs to develop the physical competencies and standards required to achieve program objectives while creating a safe, inclusive environment with a Win Well ethos, focusing on athlete well-being and high-performance objectives. Please note, this role has a maximum term of 4 years with the potential to extend.  

The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player and work closely with WAIS performance support disciplines and liaise with senior Australian Institute of Sport and National Institue Network discipline leads.

Role Overview: 

In this role your key areas of responsibility encompass: 

  • Lead and manage a team of S&C practitioners 

  • Exemplify best practices and advocate for discipline needs 

  • Foster integrated performance support 

  • Coach athletes to achieve physical performance standards or Pinnacle Event podium finishes and/or senior team graduation, per program objectives. 

  • Monitor and assess progress on physical training variables, providing objective data to inform decisions 

  • Ensure high-performance environments are safe, policy-compliant, and conducive to athlete well-being. 

About you: 

  • You are committed to upholding Australia’s High Performance WinWell pledge putting athlete wellbeing at the forefront of your role.  

  • You have a minimum of 6 years’ experience providing S&C support in a high-performance sporting environment. 

  • Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) Elite Level 3 Coach accreditation, or able to obtain this within 6 months of starting in the role. 

  • Masters or PhD in Strength and Conditioning, or equivalent Sports Science discipline. 

  • First Aid and CPR Certificate 

  • You have amazing interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with athletes, parents, colleagues and external stakeholders alike. 

  • You have or are able to attain a Working with Children Check and National Police Criminal History check. 

  • Above all else, you are a genuine team player that cares about others and always acts with kindness and integrity.
